#time4estonia with MERI (sea)
“If you know how to stop a train, then sooner or later you will be a president of a small country,“ said Lennart Meri (1929-2006).
Meri was a much-loved Estonian president from 1992 to 2001.
But did you know that he was also a great spokesperson for culture, a founder of the Estonian Institute, a remarkably talented writer, translator, dramatist, historian, editor, diplomat and a filmmaker who was fascinated with the finno-ugric peoples.
Today we share with you a magnificent documentary „Dances for the Milky Way” by director Jaak Lõhmus. This follows Lennart Meri’s film quests since 1964 when he was invited to work as an script editor for Tallinnfilm. „Dances for the Milky Way“ details the stories of the makings of Lennart Meri’s anthropological documentaries on Finno-Ugric peoples.
