MÄGI (hill, mountain)

Did you know that Estonia’s highest peak is called Big Egg Mountain (Suur Munamägi)? Regardless its relatively low height of 318 metres (1,043 ft) above sea level, it is the highest point in the whole Baltic region.

The Big Egg Mountain might not be the best-known Estonian “mägi” though. Konrad MÄGI (1878-1925) is the most outstanding one.

Konrad Mägi was one of the first modernist painters in Estonia and Nordic countries. His paintings of landscapes and portraits are the most valuable and famous. Interest in Konrad Mägi has grown in Europe since the end of the 2010s: his works have been on display at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome, the Orsay Museum in Paris and most recently in Torino.

This exquisite documentary film on Konrad Mägi was created especially for the latest solo exhibition at Musei Reali Torino by the talented film director Marianne Kõrver, whose portfolio comprises of several artists’ documentaries.
