Foreign Ministry Secretary General Jonatan Vseviov participates in the Aurora Forum in London

Secretary General Jonatan Vseviov of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was on a visit to London from 24 to 27 March, where he met with senior officials of the United Kingdom and participated in the Aurora Forum.

During the visit, Secretary General Vseviov met with Minister for Europe Stephen Doughty, Deputy National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister Dame Barbara Woodward, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Permanent Under-Secretary Olly Robbins, and Deputy National Security Adviser for Security Jonathan Allen.

The discussions centred on supporting Ukraine and strengthening measures against Russia. Secretary General Vseviov emphasised the need to raise the cost of aggression through both sanctions and other political and economic instruments, including by restricting the activities of the shadow fleet. The question of impunity in the context of violations of international law was also addressed. The meetings also covered the latest developments in the Middle East and bilateral relations between Estonia and the United Kingdom, including EU–UK cooperation.

In addition to the bilateral meetings, Secretary General Vseviov attended the Aurora Forum, which aims to strengthen cooperation between the Nordic-Baltic (NB8) region and the United Kingdom. On the margins of the Aurora Forum, a high-level meeting of Nordic-Baltic and United Kingdom representatives took place, at which a joint statement was also agreed.

During the visit, the Secretary General participated in a roundtable hosted by the International Institute for Strategic Studies and delivered a lecture to students at King’s College London entitled “Europe will be decided in Ukraine”.
