Estonia opened an Office of Honorary Consul in Leeds

Yesterday, Estonian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Tiina Intelmann opened the Office of the Estonian Honorary Consul in Leeds. The new Honorary Consul, Prof. Adam Beaumont, is entrepreneur and angel investor, founder and CEO of international technology platform business, aql. Estonian jazz singer Susanna Aleksandra Veldi performed with the Jordan Dinsdale trio at the reception held at aql’s head office located at the historic Salem Chapel.

Ambassador Intelmann highlighted at the ceremony that the opening of the Office of Honorary Consul is an important step that enables to extend consular services and develop business links in the North of England. “Leeds and its surrounding area is one of the main centres of Estonian community in the United Kingdom. The rapidly developing city of Leeds with a population of 800 000 is a major hub for banking, financial services, digital and creative industries that makes it attractive for Estonian companies. Leeds could provide perfect opportunities for Estonian businesses to enter the British market,” said Ambassador Intelmann.

During her visit, the Ambassador met the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Jane Dowson and business representatives with the aim of fostering relationships and finding out more about the opportunities in the areas of fintech and data science. Ambassador Intelmann visited Leeds with trade delegation led by the British-Estonian Chamber of Commerce that included representatives from companies such as LHV Bank, Mooncascade, Mobi Lab and Spectx.
