PROMS 2020: Paavo Järvi conducts The Philharmonia Orchestra

The BBC has announced that Paavo Järvi will conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Prom at the Royal Albert Hall on 9 September, replacing Esa-Pekka Salonen who is unable to travel to London. The programme, which will be live streamed on both BBC Radio 3 and the BBC iPlayer, features Shostakovich’s Piano Concert No.1 with soloist Benjamin Grosvenor, bookended by Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin and Mozart’s Symphony No.41. Watch on BBC iPlayer at 7.30pm.

Järvi is a regular guest of the Philharmonia Orchestra and their most recent collaboration was just last week at the Battersea Arts Centre, for a filmed performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending with soloist Nicola Benedetti, for broadcast on September 17 as a part of the “Philharmonia Sessions.”

This Prom will be broadcast for free at 19:30 BST on Wednesday 9 September 2020.

Please note that it will not be possible to have an audience at the Royal Albert Hall for this concert.
