TOUR: Kristina Õllek’s special tour of Konrad Mägi at Dulwich Picture Gallery
Sunday, 31 May at 2pm
Õllek has created a powerful site-specific installation in the Gallery Mausoleum in response to the work of Konrad Mägi, opening up a dialogue between past and present. The work draws on Õllek’s long-term research into the Baltic Sea and its ecology, reflecting the sea’s current condition while evoking the deep time of ancient marine life embedded within Estonia’s limestone coastal landscape. This temporal dimension is especially palpable in the Silurian limestone of Saaremaa, an island that played a significant role in Konrad Mägi’s artistic practice. Kristina Õllek’s installation uses sea salt, limestone and cyanobacteria to explore the living, evolving nature of landscape. On the tour, she will discuss her own artistic practice and the ideas, materials and processes that underpin it, alongside her reflections on Mägi’s work as a source of inspiration.
A rare opportunity to experience the exhibition through the perspective of the artist before it closes on 12 July. Entry to the exhibition Konrad Mägi is included with the talk.
The tour will be held in both Estonian and English.
Meeting by the entrance to the Gallery.
