Estonia, the leading education nation in Europe, has become a role model for digital education and remote learning. Estonian government and schools have made ICT work for education and they have a number of solutions that fully support distance learning.
„The COVID-19 epidemic has induced many challenges in the education sector and remote learning has become one of the central issues that tests countries’ digital readiness and reliability,“ said Kristel Rillo, the Head of Digital Education at the Ministry of Education and Research of Estonia. „Estonia has been successful in implementing remote learning and is a role model for the world with its ability to organise remote learning,“ she added.
„Having a well establishes start-up ecosystem for educational technology companies in place for some years now the schools are supported to great extent with the e-services from the private sector,“ said Rillo noted. She added that educational e-services have been significant for Estonian students and teachers for years and it has made organising distance learning a lot easier.
Remote learning webinar
The Estonian Government has launched a new initiative – Education Nation – to share its digital education solutions, services and best practices worldwide. This Thursday, April 16th, Education Nation hosts a free remote learning webinar on how Estonia organised distance learning on a national level. The webinar starts at 7 PM UTC+3h. - Mart Laidmets (Secretary General of Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia), who gives an overview how Estonia organized remote learning and what were the concrete steps on the way.
- Kristel Rillo (Head of Digital Education, Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia), makes the presentation about the cooperation between Estonian EdTech companies and Ministry of Education.
- Birgit Lao (CEO of Foundation Innove), gives an overview of the support services and the arrangement of the national exams during the COVID-19 crisis.
