Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir

In their 40th anniversary season, the legendary Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir under conductor Tõnu Kaljuste present an evening of sacred and secular music by four of the nation’s greatest composers, Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, Cyrillus Kreek and Toivo Tulev.
The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir is one of the best-known Estonian ensembles in the world. Founded in 1981 by Tõnu Kaljuste, who returned to being artistic director and chief conductor in 2021, their anniversary year.
The choir’s repertoire extends from Gregorian chant and baroque to the music of the 21st century, with a special focus on the work of Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Galina Grigoryeva, Toivo Tulev, Tõnu Kõrvits, Helena Tulve, and introducing their output to the world.
The EPCC’s recordings for ECM, Virgin Classics, Harmonia Mundi and Ondine have resulted in numerous awards, including a Grammy for Best Choral Performance: in 2007 for the album of Arvo Pärt’s Da Pacem (Harmonia Mundi) with conductor Paul Hillier and Arvo Pärt’s Adam’s Lament (ECM) with conductor Tõnu Kaljuste. All in all, the choir has 15 Grammy nominations. In 2018 the recording, Schnittke – Psalms of Repentance. Pärt – Magnificat & Nunc dimittis” (BIS), conducted by Kaspars Putniņš, won a Gramophone Award. In 2020 BBC Music Magazine named EPCC one of the 10 best choirs in the world.
