Estonian Honorary Consuls in the United Kingdom and Jersey meet in London

On Friday, 1 December, the annual Honorary Consuls’ round-table discussion took place in London with Estonia’s Honorary Consuls from the United Kingdom and Jersey. The Estonian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Tiina Intelmann commended the Consuls for providing consular services to Estonian citizens and assisting with events in the framework of the Estonian EU Presidency.

Sven Aulik, Head of Export Advisors Team from Enterprise Estonia spoke of the main export markets for Estonia and support provided together with embassies to Estonian companies expanding into foreign markets.

Ambassador Tiina Intelmann gave an overview of the Estonian EU Presidency and the development of bilateral relations. “The active involvement by Honorary Consuls was crucial in making the Presidency events in Edinburgh, Cheltenham and Jersey a success. Next year’s highlight is the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia that will be celebrated with cultural and business events all over the United Kingdom” Ms Intelmann said.

Sven Aulik of Enterprise Estonia gave a presentation on the state of play of the Estonian economy and e-residency programme, as well as export perspectives and opportunities.  “Estonian companies exporting to the United Kingdom have been adjusting to the changing environment due to weakening sterling following the EU referendum. We see a continuing interest from British businesses towards our timber industry, organic food and e-solutions,” Mr Aulik reaffirmed.

Estonia has five Honorary Consuls in the United Kingdom – in Cheltenham, Paisley, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Belfast. Estonia has also an Honorary Consul in Channel Islands who resides in Jersey.
