Estonian passports and ID cards

If less than 5 years have passed since applying for the previous passport and taking of fingerprints, you can apply for the passport by post or by e-mail directly from Estonian Police and Boarder Guard Board

It is also possible to apply for ID-card and passports for children under 12 years of age by post or e-mail directly from Estonian Police and Border Guard Board.

if you want to apply Estonian passport and ID-card through the embassy you have to come to the embassy in person to submit the application, as the embassy collects fingerprints for the documents. Please book the appointment here or over the phone 020 783 853 88. NB! Children under 12 years do not have to come to the embassy in person, one of the parents can submit the application on behalf of the child.

Estonian passport and ID-card renewal

  • Your personal data has changed
  • Your passport is full of entries
  • Your passport/ID-card has become unusable
  • Your passport/ID-card has been lost, stolen or destroyed
  • The period of validity of your passport/ID-card has expired

The state fee for the passport ₤53, ID-card ₤45, a minor under 15 years of age or a pensioner ₤18, ID-card ₤9. Passport and ID-card ₤71, a minor under 15 years of age or a pensioner ₤23. It is possible to pay in cash or by debit/credit card.

Initial passport for a child

You will need:

Initial application for an Estonian Citizen's passport

You will need:

The state fee for the passport is ₤53, ID-card ₤45, a minor under 15 years of age or a pensioner ₤18, ID-card ₤9. Passport and ID-card ₤71, a minor under 15 years of age or a pensioner ₤23. It is possible to pay in cash or by debit/credit card.

Documents proving that you are an Estonian citizen

If you have acquired Estonian citizenship by birth:

  • an original of a document proving that you are an Estonian citizen;
  • an original of a document indicating that at least one of your parents is an Estonian citizen, and verification documents to prove that you are descended from a parent who is an Estonian citizen.

If you have acquired Estonian citizenship by naturalisation:

  • a certificate of citizenship.

Documents referring to Estonian citizenship for the period from 1918 to 1940 can be obtained from:

  • Registers of Births, Deaths and Marriages (birth certificates, certificates of marriage and divorce, certificates on changing names, etc.);
  • the National Archives (certificates of Defence Forces, option certificates, school- leaving certificates, documents verifying the possession of real estate or working in the public service, etc.).
